Chapter 61 - Was there a hole in her brain? (1)

Bei Nuan didn't forget to pat the jeep to put it away in her pocket space after getting out, then she sprinted towards the dock.

As she ran, she shouted, "Wait! Wait!"

This time, someone on the boat saw Bei Nuan and turned the boat around to come back.

The person driving the boat was a man that looked to be in his thirties. He was wearing a windbreaker. He had a scar from his face to his neck. He looked quite fierce, but Bei Nuan wasn't scared of him at all. She could tell from his appearance that he was the boat owner mentioned in the novel.

His background had been briefly explained  in the novel. Despite being armed with a knife and having a fugitive-like appearance, he hadn't committed any violent crimes. He just wanted to take advantage of the chaos to earn money.

"Little girl, do you want to cross the river? I charge 10,000 yuan per person."

The owner of the boat looked over Bei Nuan. "If you don't have cash, other valuables like gold jewelry or watches will also do."

"I know," Bei Nuan quickly said, "We have money."

There was enough money in Lu Xingchi's suitcase. Bei Nuan wasn't stupid. She knew that she couldn't take out the cash right now.

"Wait a bit. A few of us went over there. They have the money. They'll be back soon."

The owner of the boat wasn't in a rush. He berthed the boat by the dock and got out of the boat to wait with her.

Bei Nuan chatted with him, "The world has already fallen to such a state. Why are you still earning money?"

There were zombies on the riverbanks, so the owner of the boat stayed on the river alone all day for safety. Thus, he didn't mind saying a few words with her.

"I heard from others that a blockade line has been built in the west. If you head there, that cordoned area is safe. Once I have enough money, I'll go buy a house in that area."

At a time like this, he was thinking of buying a house?

The owner of the boat suddenly turned his head and asked, "Are those your friends?"

Bei Nuan also turned to look. She saw three jeeps parked near the other end of the dock, and several people were walking over here.

"No, I don't know them."

Right after Bei Nuan said that, those people had already reached the dock.

Someone asked from a distance, "Boss, are you taking people across the river?"

The leader of the group was a very tall man wearing a leather jacket with a turndown collar. His jacket was unzipped, and he was wearing sunglasses. He had a sharp and fierce-looking chin. He had beautiful lips, but they were pursued contemptuously.

"Yes, 10,000 a person," the owner of the boat said.

"Yo, this boss dares to ask for money." Someone laughed.

The man in the leather jacket had already reached Bei Nuan and the owner of the boat. "10,000 a person?"

These people didn't look like they should be trifled with. The owner of the boat opened and closed his mouth. Just as he was about to speak, it was already too late.

The man took his hand out of his pocket and raised his gun at the owner of the boat's forehead. Without saying a word, he nonchalantly fired the gun.

Following the gunshot, the owner of the boat softly fell down.

The man raised his feet and kicked him. He lowered his head and smiled. "Boss, that's too expensive. How about making it cheaper?"

He made his voice more high-pitched and pretended to be the owner of the boat. "Okay, cheaper. I'll send you guys across for free."

The people behind him roared with laughter.

Bei Nuan was too shocked to speak. She felt paralzed and couldn't move.

The man turned to Bei Nuan and gestured at her.

"Get on the boat."

Bei Nuan didn't get it.

The man was a bit impatient. "He's dead. You'll pilot the boat."

Huh?

After getting over her surprise, Bei Nuan understood.

She and the owner of the boat had been the only two people on the dock, and she had put away the jeep. They were both wearing windbreakers and standing together chatting. They had looked like a team that had parked the boat by the dock and were waiting for passengers.

He killed the owner of the boat and left Bei Nuan alive to pilot the boat. But she had no idea how to pilot a boat! But, there was nothing she could do about it.

They killed people at the slightest disagreement. She could only take things one step at a time.
