Chapter 125 - After Marriage (1)

After their wedding, Nie AnAn felt that an altered line of lyrics from a song was particularly fitting –

“For the rest of my life, I am the snack before meal, the dessert after meal, and I am also the midnight snack.”

Nie AnAn became pregnant the second year after she married Huo YanXiao.

Truth was, Huo YanXiao did not plan on having a baby so early in time. After all, he was only 27 and Nie AnAn was 21. They were both young and could use a few more years of just the two of them.

But the “safe period” was never that accurate. Nie AnAn became very nervous when she found out that she was pregnant.

Her mental age was just 19, especially with the way that Huo YanXiao had been doting on her. That made her feel like she was still a baby herself.

Nevertheless, Nie AnAn discovered the benefit of being pregnant quickly.

That being Huo YanXiao no longer required his snacks before and after meals nor did he need his mid-night snack anymore.

She enjoyed the break time and would dress scantily and wander around in front of him every night. She was short of having Big-Brother-I-Really-Enjoy-The-Way-You-Look-At-Me-And-Your-Eyes-Darken-and-Blood-Boil-But-Can’t-Do-Anything-To-Me-written-all-over-her-face.

Finally, Nie AnAn was stopped the fifth time she brought Huo YanXiao milk to his study in his buttoned-down shirt.

“Come over, AnAn,” said Huo YanXiao as he looked up from his paperwork.

Nie AnAn nodded and walked over to him.

He reached out, scooped her up, and put her on his thigh.

Suddenly, Nie AnAn noticed that something was off.

But, it’d be alright. She has her trump card.

So she looked at the man with her clear eyes and said in her fluffy voice, “Yes, Big Brother? Would you like me to massage your head for you?”

Huo YanXiao’s Adam’s apple rolled up and down and he said, “Mmm, yes.”

Nie AnAn’s lips curved upward. She was about to slide off from Huo YanXiao’s legs and give him a head massage.

Except that, Huo YanXiao picked her up and placed her on top of his large desk.

Nie AnAn asked dubiously, “Big Brother?”

“Hang on, let me raise the chair up a little,” said Huo YanXiao with his hoarse voice. “Almost there.”

Nie AnAn had goosebumps and a bad feeling.

Yet, she told herself there was nothing to worry about. She’s pregnant. There was nothing he could do about it.

But, quickly, Huo YanXiao taught Nie AnAn a very important lesson.

He taught her with hands on experience that there was no such thing as absolute safety in this word.

That very night, when Nie AnAn was brushing her teeth, her hands were still shaking. Looking at herself in the mirror, she has no tears.

The next day, Nie AnAn’s buns did not maintain her usual quality and a few of the folds were obviously crooked. They were not as neat as they usually were.

And that afternoon, she even dropped the spatula while she was stir frying, and it made a loud noise.

That night, she dared not wander around in front of Huo YanXiao in his clothes anymore.

***

The day that Nie AnAn gave birth, there was also a thunderstorm.

Inside the hospital, Huo YanXiao took a look outside of the window, then looked down at his wife and child. He felt a lot of complicated emotions.

He lowered his head and gently kissed his wife and child who were both sound asleep. He felt nothing else other than the fact that his heart had been filled.

He had been alone since his mother had died, and he was living on the streets. Part of the reason that he picked up Nie AnAn was to have someone to keep him company.

Owing to one reason or another, his adopted sister had grown apart from him sometime down the line and another soul had entered into his life unexpectedly.

Certain things in life seemed to be fate. Much like his rebirth and her transmigration. It was as though it was all meant to be.
