Chapter 21 - A Visitor In The Middle Of The Night (2)

Late in the night, the small town was completely quiet.

Through the French window at the hotel, one would notice that the street lights looked like a cloudy night, with just a few stars that could be seen.

Chen Qinyan finished the last bit of his work and walked into his daughter’s room.

Chen Mian had already been asleep for a few hours. She had in her arms a stuffed animal fish. Her blanket was kicked to one side, and she was soundly asleep.

Chen Qinyan bent down and placed the blanket back over his daughter before he quietly left her room, left the hotel, and headed toward Ye Qing’s house.

Without the interruption of the little kitten, Ye Qing could stay up to the wee hours worry-free so she started watching TV.

Unfortunately, she still lost to sleepiness and fell asleep a third of the way through her movie.

The movie continued to play on the tablet computer and fluent English resounded in the room like a lullaby.

Chen Qinyan stood by her bed and looked down at Ye Qing. His gaze was as cold as a lamp in an operating room.

She was always smiling when she was awake. Her eyes crooked and giving the illusion that she was friendly and tender.

When she was asleep, however, she had no expressions on her face.

Her delicate features showed her true form behind the smile. Like jade, cold to the touch.

Chen Qinyan bent down, reached out his hand, and his slender finger followed the curve of Ye Qing’s smooth cheek and finally stopping over her heart.

He could feel the beating of her heart. Thump. Thump. It let him know that this woman, indeed, has a heart.

“Why is it that it’s impossible to bring warmth to her heart?” sighed Chen Qinyan quietly.

Ye Qing slept till 11 AM the next day.

She stretched comfortably and plugged in her tablet computer that had turned itself off the night before heading  into the bathroom.

By the time she had gotten ready, Second Aunt arrived with her lunch.

Shortly after finishing her lunch, Big Aunt, who wasn’t supposed to be here until dinner time, came with a bag of fruits.

She was here for her son’s job again.

Her son had already prepared his resume and a sample of his work and emailed them to Ye Qing the night before.

She was worried that Ye Qing didn’t forward it over in time to her old manager, so she came to micromanage.

What was her son to do if they were just a tad late, and Ye Qing’s old company ended up hiring someone else?

Ye Qing made herself a fine cup of longjing tea. Under her Big Aunt’s stare, Ye Qing finally turned on her computer that she hasn’t touched in day and started looking over her little cousin’s resume and sample work.

She sipped at her tea as she looked.

Big Aunt gulped subconsciously.

Normally, she would have asked Ye Qing to make her a cup already.

This tea leaves that Ye Qing has just looked so fine.

But right now, Ye Qing was looking at her son’s resume and work, rest be sure, she wasn’t going to disturb her.

Ye Qing read one line at a time.

Truth be told, it was a pretty well put together resume, just like Big Aunt’s way with her words.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

And his sample work, basing on the original owner’s experience, was pretty good as well.

But considering little cousin’s family background, and the mocking look in Second Aunt’s eyes when Big Aunt was bragging about her son last night, Ye Qing was pretty sure there was more to the story than what she was looking at.

And she would be right about that.

The sample work that her little cousin forwarded to her wasn’t done by him but was plagiarized from one of his college schoolmates.

He had used the exact same work to get into his previous company, but the company had discovered that he was lacking in ability before his probationary period was over and let him go.

So, he started job hunting again. Unfortunately, the next few companies that he interviewed with all required him to draw his sample on site, and he wasn’t even able to make it past the interview.
