Chapter 6 - His sword-wielding princess would innocently look up and be captivated by his beauty.

Although Mingcheng University wasn't among the top schools in the city, it was renowned for its stunning campus scenery of blooming cherry blossoms in spring.

When Li Shihui drove her Panamera past the university's famous cherry blossom avenue, she was too preoccupied to appreciate the trees that were in full bloom. If she didn't have to give an afternoon lecture to an undergraduate class with over a hundred students on the Principles of Automatic Control, she would have stayed home.

After hearing her answer in the morning, Jiang Minyun had remained surprisingly calm, even calmer than when she had been ignoring him.

He put the car keys into his pocket. With a calm expression, he nonchalantly said, "Ah, okay then, I won't drive you. I wish you and Lin Zhicheng a long and happy marriage in advance."

Li Shihui did her best to not be bothered by his words. She didn't argue with him and calmly bent down to put on her shoes in the entryway.

She heard the sound of a lighter being struck from behind her.

She knew that although he smoked, he wasn't a heavy smoker. So once they moved in together, he never smoked at home or in front of her.

She turned around to remind him to smoke outside and saw his forced smile.

The next second, he seemed to lose consciousness. His tall body avoided her as he fell heavily to the ground.

"Jiang Minyun!" Her face instantly paled. She rushed over to hug him. Her heart was pounding faster than ever before.

"His brain just wasn't getting enough blood flow for a moment. He's probably too tired. He'll be fine after resting. Nothing to worry about," the primary care physician diagnosed, reassuring Li Shihui.

She looked at Jiang Minyun, who was quietly lying in their bed. She felt extremely uneasy.

It was only after meeting Jiang Minyun's new assistant, that she found out how busy her husband had been the past two months. On top of that, he had stayed up for two nights in a row before the last day of filming, and then he had gone wild last night after coming home. In the morning, he did his usual high intensity exercise and stuffed himself on the leftovers. It was no wonder that he fainted right after being stimulated after all those ups and downs.

Li Shihui stayed by his side and watched the liquid in the IV slowly drip down.

Provoking him didn't make her feel any better.

As she was wondering how to face him after he woke up, the large hand that she was holding suddenly trembled.

"Huihui?" Jiang Minyun opened his eyes. He looked half-dead with his pale face and bloodless lips, but he was still concerned about her. "Weren't you going to go to work?"

How could she go when he was like this?

Li Shihui shook her head. "I'll stay with you."

Jiang Minyun smiled. He wanted to hold her hand to his face and raised his hand with the inserted needle.

Li Shihui hastily pressed his hand down. She was afraid that the blood in his hand would flow into the IV.

"What do you want to do?" She stared at him with a furrowed brow.

Jiang Minyun seemed to have been waiting for these words. His eyes suddenly reddened. "Huihui, I don't want a divorce, really. I swear I'll never bring up Lin Zhicheng again. I know you're just angry with me. I'm sorry."

Jiang Minyun struggled to sit up and lean closer to her. With pitiful eyes filled with the fear of being abandoned, he pleaded, "Huihui, I love you. Let's not get a divorce, okay? I really, really love you."

From the time they got together to when they got married, he had never said he loved her so many times.

Li Shihui turned her head, but he held her hand so tightly that it became sweaty.

His plea was like a siren's song, and she was the bewitched sailor. She clearly knew that he was probably just saying sweet words to manipulate her, but she couldn't resist.

Her lips trembled as she asked, "Do you really love me?"

And not because he felt a sense of responsibility after all these years, not because he was touched that she had pursued him, not as a reward for her dedication, not because he wanted to appease her because he thought she was throwing a tantrum.

But simply a man loving a woman.

She had given her whole heart to him, but he remained unmoved.

Jiang Minyun hugged her and softly smiled like a beguiling monster. His beautiful fingers gently wiped her tears. "I've always loved you."

I've always loved you.

I've always… loved you.

She could only watch as the small boat she was steering was swallowed up by the sea he controlled.

As the siren sang, it dragged the sailor deeper into the water.

She hugged him back. She couldn't help herself in confessing, "I love you too. Can you please stop suspecting me from now on? Please, I'm begging you. If I don't love you, then there's no else I love in the world."

She had lost her parents at a young age, and she had given all of her love to her husband. When he repeatedly questioned her, she felt unbearable anguish.

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault. Baby, I'm sorry. I won't suspect you anymore. I promise I won't delete your contact information again. It's my bad that you're hurt. I love you."

Jiang Minyun lowered his eyes, kissed the top of her head, and settled back down to obediently nestle in her embrace. "I have the next two weeks off. Spend more time with me."

"Okay…. Okay," Li Shihui readily agreed," I already sent you my schedule. I'll try my best to stay home during the time that I'm free."

"Mhm." Jiang Minyun buried his face in her soft belly and acted cutely spoiled. "Now it's my turn to wait for you at home." If he wasn't hooked up to an IV drip, he would have rolled around on her lap.

Li Shihui relaxed her shoulders and genuinely smiled as she stroked his cheek. The ice that encased her in the past two months seemed to have melted away with the arrival of spring.

After lunch, Jiang Minyun stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor to watch Li Shihui drive away to class. When her car rounded the bend by the flowerbed in the distance and disappeared from his view, his expression, which had been gentle all morning, finally reverted to his usual indifference.

Love? Only someone as naive as Li Shihui would believe in such an illusory thing.

For him, love was an emotion that made people willing to debase themselves. Confessing love was merely one of the many bait that he threw out to catch Li Shihui.

If the fish tried to get away, then he had to add more bait to ensure it would remain securely hooked.

When he passed by the dining table, he saw the lonely smile necklace.

The aunty was a very reliable person; she was careful around valuable items. She had simply picked up the necklace from the floor and put it back in the box.

Jiang Minyun hooked his index finger around the thin chain, lifted it up, and carefully examined it.

"How could I have thought you looked good?"

While tugging the chain between his hands, he headed upstairs and said under his breath, "I bought you home. She saw you and threw a tantrum, cried, brought up divorce, and wanted to be with Lin Zhicheng. Everything that angers me was done. How could you be so unlucky? Hmm?"

He carelessly smacked the necklace against the railing and wall, creating a slight sound as if the necklace was refuting him.

He walked up to a window on the second floor and pushed it open. The cool spring breeze blew in and carried his gloomy mood to every corner of the house.

"It's your fault and Lin Zhicheng's. Everyone that causes Li Shihui to inexplicably do stupid things should go die."

Like a bored teenager that loved to twirl earphones, he twirled the expensive necklace between his fingers a few more times, then he chucked it out the window like it was trash.

The necklace was so light that it didn't even make a sound and vanished into the wind.

He stretched his hands out and braced them on the windowsill, causing his veins to bulge. There was still a slight discoloration on the back of his hand from the IV injection.

He tilted his head back. His perfect facial features were bathed in the sunlight that slipped through the gaps of the lush overhead greenery.

For a moment, he imagined himself as Rapunzel, the princess that was cursed by a witch. Every day, he would eagerly wait for Li Shihui to pass by the window, and then he would let down the long hair that he had meticulously taken care of.

His sword-wielding princess would innocently look up and be captivated by his beauty. She would say again and again that she would save him and then bravely climb up the castle, but she would get trapped in his long hair and be imprisoned in the castle. She'd stay by his side and listen to him sing every day. They would live happily ever after.

If one day, the witch were to take his princess away, or if the witch seduced his princess, then he would secretly stab the witch to death. He would use the sharpest knife to brutally cut out the witch's heart, hang it on the castle wall, and leave it for the crows and vultures to gather and peck to pieces.

That thought put a sweet smile on his face.

The ringing of his phone interrupted his daydream.

It was a call from Zhuang He. Zhuang He had been his agent for the past ten years.

After he rose to fame, Zhuang He joined as an active partner in his independent agency.

They worked quite well together professionally. For example, unless there was an urgent matter, Zhuang He would never call and disturb him during his time off.

Zhuang He started off by asking about his fainting this morning.

"Mhm, I'm fine," Jiang Minyun responded.

Jiang Minyun took out a cigarette pack and pulled out a cigarette, but he didn't light it. He enjoyed the feeling of holding the cigarette between his teeth as he indifferently gazed out of the window.

Perhaps, it was because he had been in a state of suppressed madness all morning, so he sounded like a normal person when he answered the phone. Jiang Minyun raised his eyebrows when Zhuang He mentioned something that caught his interest.

"Calm him down first. Help him solve his recent difficulties. Then send over his lender's business card."

Zhuang He said another string of words. Jiang Minyun laughed in response. He was recently lacking a mouse to play with, and someone delivered this amusement to his door.

Before ending the call, Jiang Minyun thought it over and mentioned, "I've already met with Liang Xinyu. If anyone asks, just say that I had dinner with you."

After a few seconds, he smiled. "No way. I just want to complete the task ahead of schedule."

After ending the call, he returned to his and Li Shihui's bedroom, flopped down on her side of the bed, and buried his face in her pillow. He took a deep breath.

Li Shihui didn't like to use perfume, so her pillow only smelled of the shampoo that he also used, but he still believed that she had a unique scent. It was extremely light and clean, a warm scent. He felt he couldn't keep living another day without breathing in her scent.

So damn tired.

He quickly drifted off to sleep.

He heard Li Shihui calling his name and stroking his cheek.

"Why are you sleeping on my side?" Li Shihui lightly smiled. She had done a lot of part-time manual labor jobs during high school, so her fingertips had slight calluses. Her strokes on his face felt very comfortable to him. "Let's eat dinner before going back to sleep, okay?"

Jiang Minyun stared at her without blinking. He thought he was dreaming, so he rubbed his face against her palm like a cat. "Huihui....."

Li Shihui blushed. Her voice sounded a bit unnatural as she said, "Get up and eat first."

She was about to stand up, but he grabbed her hand, pulled her down, and gave her a kiss as light as a dragonfly skimming water.

"I want to eat something made by you." He smiled.

"S-Stop joking." Her expression darkened for a moment. She turned her face away from him. "It's gotten so bad that you would replace the housekeeper aunty if she made it."

"Because I didn't know." He feigned innocence. With his chin resting on the pillow, he said, "If you had told me you were cooking, I would have canceled my dinner plans last night and came home to eat. That would have been the tastiest meal for sure."

"Really?" Li Shihui abruptly turned her head. "If you knew I was cooking, you would have come back to eat?" Would you have chosen me over Liang Xinyu without hesitation?

"Of course." When Jiang Minyun saw that she was happy, his lips curved upwards, and he emphasised, "And I would have eaten every last bite."

"Don't coax me." Li Shihui said that, but she still couldn't resist happily leaning in to kiss him on the cheek.

For a moment, Jiang Minyun felt like he was about to die from his heart beating too fast. He rigidly laid on the bed, completely still.

Li Shihui saw that he didn't respond and thought he was joking around. "Alright, I got… Ah!"

A heavy pressure on the back of her neck cut off her words, and she was pulled towards him.

His cold lips tightly pressed against hers, and he mumbled for her to open her mouth. His tongue slipped in and fiercely surveyed his territory. Her lower lip was repeatedly sucked and licked until swollen. She felt overheated and breathless. They were like swimmers holding their breath to the point of exhaustion before finally surfacing to gasp for air.

Jiang Minyun rubbed his nose against hers with their foreheads touching. His rare elated smile felt scorching. "Listen, not only will I eat your cooking until there's nothing left, I'll eat you up too."

He lifted his chin and gently touched her nose with his lips. He pleaded, "Don't provoke me anymore, ancestor."

Just like it was worth waiting for the clouds to part to see the bright moon, Li Shihui felt her perseverance in their relationship had been worth it. Her heart was like ashes in the morning, but by evening, her heart was rekindled.

The rival who felt like a thorn in throat, the cold war that left her lonely and sleepless, her one-sided devotion that made her so humble. She could endure it all and bury everything deep in her heart.

She looked at Jiang Minyun with adoration and willingly succumbed to his tenderness. She thought her waiting had come to an end, and her love was returned by him.

She reached out and gently touched his earlobe.
