Chapter 32 - Knowledge Makes One Rich (1)

After the first customer, more followed.

Cheng Huan let out a sigh of relief. She took orders and barbequed the meat and was very busy. XingXing just sat on one side and played with the blocks by himself. He didn’t cry. He didn’t fuss. He was also very polite when others came up to talk to him. He was a very well-behaved little kid.

As it was the first day, Cheng Huan didn’t bring too much with her and she was sold out at the three hours mark.

When the last customer took off, Cheng Huan picked everything up, placed them onto her tricycle, and called out to XingXing

XingXing had always maintained a very healthy schedule. He normally went to bed at 9 PM and now it’s almost 11:30 PM. He had been so tired that he had fallen asleep laying on the table.

It took Cheng Huan a while to wake him up. The little kid grumbled and looked up. His eyes were still closed when he leaned over and was half-asleep on Cheng Huan’s legs.

His arms around her leg. Nuzzling a few times on her pants, he muttered something that resembled “Mom” and fell asleep again.

Cheng Huan shoved him a couple more times. Seeing that she wouldn’t be able to wake the little kiddo up, she finally gave up on trying to wake up but picked him up and placed him inside the tricycle.

As she didn’t need to bring the tables and chairs back with her, the car was much emptier on their return trip. Cheng Huan lowered the awning for her stall and placed some rocks on them to keep them down before she rode the tricycle back.

The intense heat of the city had dissipated in the middle of the night. The breeze hitting the skin through the thin fabric took away the heat from physical labor.

The tricycle didn’t have a very good shock resistance. It bounced even on flat roads.

XingXing was woken up from the rocking. He yawned and opened his eyes. He didn’t know where he was at first until he twisted his neck and saw Cheng Huan, that’s when he remembered where he was that night.

He sat up amd readjusted himself into a different position before he called out, “Mom.”

The kid’s milky voice reached Cheng Huan against the wind and he asked, “Are we going home?”

“Yes, we are going home. XingXing must be tired. You will be able to go to bed once we get home.”

XingXing was tried indeed. It wasn’t comfortable sleeping on the table. He slid down to one side inside the compartment and grumbled, “Making money is so tiring.”

One couldn’t sleep even when it’s dark out, plus mom didn’t have time to chat with him all night long.

The little kiddo let out a sigh. With a mature look, he said something was laughable, “Can we not make money, Mom?”

“We can’t.” Their tricycle turned into their district and into the parking lot. Cheng Huan stopped the tricycle and carried XingXing out of it. She pinched him on his face and said, “If Mommy doesn’t make money, we won’t be able to buy clothes, or food. And XingXing won’t be able to go to play with other kids at the kindergarten.”

“Then I won’t go.” The little kiddo didn’t have any friends and lacked the understanding of going to school. Grabbing one of his mother’s fingers, he said, “I don’t like kindergarten.”

“But you can make many friends at the kindergarten. Then XingXing will be able to play with them and learn many things.”

The elevator door opened up in front of them and Cheng Huan walked in with her son. She pressed the button for their floor and said, “You will need to have a lot of knowledge to become a successful person and earn money to support your mommy.”

XingXing puffed up his cheeks. His face furrowed. He struggled with that for a while before he said, “Alright.”

“When I make lots of money, then mommy won’t have to go out to work anymore,” said the little kiddo. “Just like Aunty Xiao Mei.”

Aunty Xiao Mei was their neighbor across from them, now a full-time housewife.

Cheng Huan stroked him on his head. The little kiddo had his hair cut recently and it poked her hand a little. “Okay. Mommy will wait for XingXing to make money to support her.”

After the two had gone home, Cheng Huan bathed XingXing and put him to bed. She read him a story to put him to sleep before she went back outside to check out her earnings for the day.

Perhaps, because of the original novel, there was no convenient cellphone payment system in this world, there was only cash or bank cards for payments.

Cheng Huan opened up the can with her money and poured all the content out on the coffee table before she started tidying them up.
