Chapter 10 - Give Me Her WeChat Info (2)

There are always many dreams in a long night.

In the thick darkness of the night, Lu JingYan woke up abruptly from fear. The pounding of his heart washed over him like a tsunami, even breathing was painful to him.

His bangs and his thin top were soaked in cold sweat.

He prodded himself up, and it was pitch black in front of him. Large drops of sweat rolled down the side of his cheeks one after another.

The moonlight casted on his pale face from an angle. He was handsome but disheveled.

The vague image that he had sought after for four years finally had taken shape.

The rest of the dream was gruesome and difficult to stomach. It was enough to make one’s heart ache.

***

Chi Ying, too, wasn’t able to sleep soundly. She dreamed about her previous life…

The production team went to a location in the mountains, and her colleagues were chattering along the way. She, on the other hand, just listened to them quietly.

“Eh? That man looked like a fortune teller. I am telling you… they are all con artists. Don’t fall for them.”

“I know that too, but it’s so cold today and there aren’t a lot of tourists. He might not even have one customer for the whole day. Aye, life’s pretty rough for him too…”

She felt something tugged at her heart and looked down the little windy path.

There was an old man sitting on the side of the road with his legs crossed. His face was covered in lines, and the hair to both sides of his cheeks was white like frost. His eyes were shut tightly, and he was holding prayer beads in his hand.

Surrounding them was a deep and serene forest of locust trees, wavering in the cold winter.

When they walked past the old man, their voices lowered.

Until Chi Ying walked past him.

The old man suddenly opened his eyes and handed her a crumbled-up book.

The cover of the book was already gone, and the pages were yellow and full of signs from its days.

Chi Ying was baffled. She tried to curve her lips that were slightly frozen from the cold weather and asked, “Mister, what is this?”

While she was hesitant about whether to accept it or not, the old man shoved it into her hand and said in his hoarse voice, “Just keep it.”

Before he was even done saying it, he closed his eyes again as though he did not wish to be disturbed and no longer wished to be engaged with her.

Chi Ying paused for a little and was about to shove the book into her bag.

An actress from the team stuck her head over curiously and asked, “Ying, what did he give you?”

Chi Ying waved the book in her hand and replied, “This. Looks like a book?”

“You know him?”

Chi Ying shook her head.

“That’s true. How would you know him?” said the actress as she smacked herself on her head. “What kind of a book is it? Flip it open and take a look.”

She didn’t say anything else as she took the book from Chi Ying, flipped through it quickly, and busted out laughing. “It’s a Domineering CEO novel? Hahaha. That’s so funny!”

……

Amidst the laughter of the actress, Chi Ying felt her chest tightened, and she woke up gradually. She felt a bit of moisture on the corners of her eyes.

She knew that was a dream about the trip she took with the filming crew in her previous life.

Later on, the TV show was aired and her, being the second female lead, gained a lot of popularity and her number of fans on WeChat rose to almost 5 million.

That was her first time being noticed, and many directors extended olive branches to her.

Just when her dream was so close to coming true, she suddenly started falling ill and losing weight. Finally, she received the diagnosis of having end-stage breast cancer.

In her previous life, she had no parents, and she grew up with her grandmother, who passed away during her second year in college.

There weren’t a lot of people that she missed in particular in that world, but she still felt that her life had been cut short. She wanted to have more films made and visited more sceneries.

Chi Ying still remembered the temperature of her drop of tear when her EKG machine turned into a flatline.

Luckily, she didn’t die.

She had transmigrated into the world of the book given to her by the fortune teller.

As for why she had a new life, and why the fortune teller could successfully predict her future, that’s a very metaphysical question that she refused to think about as she’d never been able to comprehend it.

She just wanted to go along with what life had instilled for her and to live it.

The butler came and knocked on the door when Chi Ying was half awake.

There was uncontrolled excitement in his weathered voice as he said, “Miss, Young Master is back.”
