Chapter Part 75 - As if he was a demon or an evil spirit (2)
Raw Chapter 36 Part 2 of 2
Bo Li's shyness didn't last for long. Mrs. Freeman went upstairs with a mop and bucket and swiftly cleaned up.
"This is all from those gentlemen throwing up?" Mrs. Freeman tsked. "Miss Clermont, it's not that I dislike this work for being dirty, but can you ask those gentlemen to eat less before coming next time? What they ate is exposed for everyone to see, how embarrassing!"
The merry atmosphere became even more joyful.
Thorne came over to tell that the meal was almost ready. They could go back to eat dinner.
It was only then that Bo Li remembered Erik hadn't appeared from beginning to end. He seemed to have left after scaring Mitte.
She thought it over and told the others to go back first. She went upstairs to check for Erik.
There were no traces of fighting upstairs.
Facing Erik, Mitte couldn't even fight back. He could only cry and snivel in fear.
Bo Li picked up two pulleys at the end of the hallway.
Hypnosis required psychological hints: sound, smell, image, and music could all be used for hypnosis.
Erik probably relied on these two pulleys to guide Mitte into a hypnotic state.
Bo Li entered the room that Mitte had been in.
The corpse in the room was fake, but it could easily pass as a real one. She didn't know what materials Erik had used to make such realistic human skin. He had also matched it with the smell of a decomposing body.
Bo Li walked around the room. She saw water dripping from the ceiling. It was a sign of melting ice.
The pub had an ice cellar, and it was easy to make ice.
Erik had added ventilation holes to the ceiling and placed ice blocks around them. Under the principle that cold air sank and hot air rose, this could make the room temperature plummet.
Without this cooling mechanism, Mitte wouldn't have been frightened in a short time.
Bo Li calculated the cost to make ice and thought that it was better to not use ice unless the customer was particularly difficult.
She was deep in thought and didn't notice that a tall figure had come to the door.
By the time she was done thinking, Erik's figure loomed over her.
He looked at her and took a step forward. There was a slight never before seen aggressiveness in his eyes.
Bo Li reflexively took a step back. Her back hit the table. "You're here."
He didn't speak. He kept walking forward until his knees touched her legs.
If he came any closer, he would be wedged between her legs.
This was his first time showing such a side.
Bo Li's heart wildly pounded. It felt like it was about to jump to her throat, and her body felt weak… So thrilling.
It was the right decision to agree to have dinner with Mitte.
Erik stared at her. His eyes slowly moved down and finally stopped her lips. He paused there for two seconds before quickly looking away.
Today was an overwhelming victory for them.
His long-time dream had come to fruition. Just by moving his fingers, he could put people with undeserved reputations through trials.
He didn't want to appear in front of others. He wanted the world to see his talent while he hid in the shadows.
From that aspect, she had satisfied all of his desires.
And yet, why did he still feel angry and dissatisfied?
He looked at her and wanted to close the distance between them.
Her face was flushed, and her breathing was rapid. She looked eager for him to get closer, but he knew that she was actually afraid, terribly afraid of his approaching presence because he had grabbed her throat and wanted to kill her more than once.
Almost immediately, he thought of Mitte, that disgustingly handsome gentleman. Would she be scared if Mitte approached her?
At that time, Mitte had been so close to her. His breath had dirtied her cheeks.
Instead of retreating, she looked up and smiled at Mitte.
That unfamiliar man's breath invaded her lungs, swirled around in her body, and came out through her mouth.
That breath was invisible.
And yet, it felt like he could see that breath. The blood in his body gradually became hot, and his chest violently heaved. It felt like his heart was going to burst out from his chest.
Was this feeling anger, murderous intent, or jealousy?
His brain felt dizzy. When he came back to his senses, he had already grabbed her chin.
She raised her head without any resistance.
He saw her lips and tongue.
All he had to do was lean over and fill her mouth with his breath.
Was that all he wanted? To simply have her inhale and exhale his breath? Or, was what he really wanted - to have her take in his tongue?
That thought burned him. He hastily released her chin. His Adam's apple heavily rolled up and down, and he jerked back.
However, once that thought was out, it couldn't be put away.
No matter where he looked, he could hear the movement of her lips and tongue, stimulating his nerves.
He felt a strong throbbing in his chest. It was a thirsty, anxious sort of dull pain. It felt like it could only be quenched by touching and rubbing against her lips and tongue. He took another step back.
His imagination didn't stop there. It went down a darker and crazier direction.
She was going to have dinner with Mitte, so why not rub her lips with his until they were flushed and swollen, so that she couldn't open her mouth or swallow and could only breath in his breath-
Just imaging that made his body feel feverish. It was as if her breath had entered his nose, seeped into his skin, and corroded his bones.
But soon, a thought came to his mind. She would never kiss him. That thought felt like cold water extinguishing his fervent mind.
She was willing to be close to him because she hadn't seen his face yet. Once she did, she would be like his mother, who never touched him and shunned him as if he was a demon or an evil spirit.
Snippet from raw chapter 37.
Erik didn't speak, but his gaze kept lingering back and forth over her face.
She didn't know what he was thinking. He stared at her lips for a few seconds before quickly looking away, and then his gaze uncontrollably slid back to her lips, and the cycle repeated again and again.
What made her scalp tingle the most was that his gaze was calm, but the trajectory of his gaze was overt.
Bo Li's heart was pounding. She almost blurted out, "Do you want to kiss me?"
And yet, she knew that he would immediately turn around and leave if she asked that. And then, the initiative would be back in his hands again. The next time they met, the next time they talked, it would all be up to him.
Although he didn't say anything, Bo Li could tell that he didn't like seeing her going out in men's clothing.
Unlike other men, he wouldn't forbid her from doing so on ethical grounds. He wouldn't tell her that crossdressing was going against traditional womanly virtues either.
However, any man that closely looked at her legs or put his arm around her shoulder would meet with misfortune such as suddenly getting something in his eye or falling flat on his face.
Previously, Bo Li hadn't thought anything about it. She really thought those incidents were because of the thick smog or the uneven streets.
This was just like how he stared at her with a cold gaze when she spoke to Mitte earlier today, as if he could control her every move like she was a puppet.
Bo Li didn't mind his desire to control her.
When he tried to control her, he would show stronger aggression than usual, and his eyes and behavior would be even more possessive.
This feeling of stepping past that boundary line at any time was more exciting than standing at the line between life and death.
What she didn't like was that he wanted her satisfying his ideas without ever verbally communicating with her.
Why should she put up with this? Did he not have a mouth? Why can't he just directly tell her what he wanted?
Bo Li cleared her throat. "Today's performance was very successful. Is there nothing you want to say to me?"
He looked at her lips again. "... Congratulations."
"Just that?"
"What else?"
His tone was cold and rude, but Bo Li didn't get angry. She continued to ask, "Do you think I should go to dinner with Mr. Mitte?"
"That's your business." Erik paused, looking away. "If you insist on eating with a vacuous person, what can I say?"
In the past, she would definitely find a way to continue the conversation and try to guide him to express his true thoughts, but suddenly, she no longer wanted to do that.
Since he looked at her with such a gaze, then he should take the initiative to talk to her.
And so, Bo Li took a step back and nonchalantly replied, "Okay, then I'll leave first. I was going to invite you over for the celebration dinner, but since you never eat there… never mind."
Erik turned to look at her. His throat slightly moved as if he wanted to say something, but he didn't open his mouth.
Bo Li's expression looked extremely benign. "Good night, goodbye."
She walked around him and out the door. Even as she was walking out of the pub, she could feel his relentless gaze.
And yet, he never called out to stop her, not even once.
T/N: Sorry for disappearing for so long. The longer I didn't translate, the more I felt I had to finish translating the novel before resuming posting again, and that was so daunting that I kept procrastinating.
Chapter part 75 is the last part of raw chapter 36. I’m relieved to see that another translator (Zhuzhi Teahouse) has picked up this novel. It looks like they're translating the unrevised version.
