Chapter 267 - Her good behavior only lasted a few minutes (3)

The jeep headed south towards the interior of M Country. The road's red soil didn't change, but the flat terrain changed into small hills along the road. There were large stretches of tea farms on those hills. Although they were no longer being taken care of, they still resembled thick green carpets that were full of vitality.

Having gotten used to Lu Xingchi's driving, Bei Nuan felt that Captain Zheng was driving too slowly. It felt like the jeep was crawling on the road, making her sleepy.

Captain Zheng picked up an old map that was underneath the windshield and looked at the marked location.

"Almost there," he said.

In the far distance, she could see a huge manor at the end of a large tea farm.

Bei Nuan concluded; so rich.  The person that entrusted them to fetch items must have been a local tyrant in M country.

The manor occupied a large area and consisted of several buildings. The overhead walkway and covered corridor were connected. The ornamental decorations were complicated. The little marble angels lying on the eaves and the large stone lions at the door were looking at each other as if they were in the middle of a friendly cultural exchange.

And then, Bei Nuan understood why the owner of the manor had to hire people to fetch things. It was because the zombies were everywhere.

This local tyrant's manor was surrounded by grassland and a tea farm. There were many workers in the tea farm. They had all turned into zombies and were wandering the grounds.

Even if those zombies were dealt with, she could easily see zombies wandering outside the manor. There were too many zombies outside. If they wanted to go inside to fetch things, they would have to pass through many hurdles. For ordinary people, this trip might cost their lives.

However,  Lu Xingchi wasn't an ordinary person. This amount of zombies wasn't nothing to him.

When they got closer to the tea farm, they found a place to conceal themselves and got out of the jeep.

Captain Zheng went to the back of the jeep, opened the trunk, took out a bow, and put a quiver on his back. He looked like he was going hunting.

He explained, "There's too many zombies here. Using bow and arrows is safer than using a gun."

Big Black didn't join the search team yesterday, so he didn't take Lu Xingchi seriously.

He took out his machete and glanced at the exquisite black crossbow in Lu Xingchi's hand. "When it comes to killing zombies, flashy items are useless."

Bei Nuan thought; haha.

Lu Xingchi only smiled and didn't take his words to heart.

Big Black twirled his machete and said to Captain Zheng, "Bro, don't shoot me."

Captain Zheng nodded. "I know."

The two people looked solemn.

Big Black carried his machete and walked in the front while the two people with range weapons followed behind him.

Bei Nuan went through the motions by bringing along the crowbar. She and the skinny man were like professional cheerleaders that had specially come here to cheer them on.

Bei Nuan quickly discovered that Big Black used his machete completely differently from Jiang Fei with his daggers. He didn't take the agility route. He relied entirely on going all-out and his strength. He hacked any zombie that came near him. He was full of murderous intent.

In contrast, Lu Xingchi was quite conservative with his shooting.

After Bei Nuan carefully observed for a while, she noticed that he was keeping track. Every time Captain Zheng killed a zombie, he would kill one too. He didn't kill any more or any less.

It was as if a world champion had come to a school sports meeting. He suppressed his abilities to keep pace with the best runner in the school.

Captain Zheng and Big Black were observing Lu Xingchi.

Big Black wasn't as reserved as Captain Zheng. After watching for a while, he said to the skinny man, "He's not as amazing as you said."

The skinny man's face turned red with worry. "Big Brother Lu isn't showing off his skills as much."

Bei Nuan thought; it wasn't that he wasn't showing off much. He wasn't showing off at all.

They passed through the tea farm and came to the entrance of the manor. They entered the courtyard through the gate and slowly fought their way to the main building.

Captain Zheng quietly said, "I heard there's more than 200 servants here. They must have all turned into zombies." He took out a piece of paper from his pocket. It was a map of the manor with two places marked with small circles.

Captain Zheng pointed at the small circles and planned out their route. "We have to find the two circled rooms."

Bei Nuan thought; too scary. The place was so big they had to consult a map to find rooms.

Why not just build a bus route for this manor? The bus could depart at scheduled times. People could simply board the bus to go wherever they wanted. It would be so convenient.

As soon as they walked in, they saw a lobby that was comparable to the lobby of an opera house. Unfortunately, the power was out, and the crystal chandelier wasn't lit. Otherwise, it would definitely be a dazzling sight.

The more servants there used to be, the more zombies there were. There were uniformed zombies wandering everywhere in the mansion.

Even if Lu Xingchi was deliberately hiding his strength, he still didn't look weak. Bei Nuan discovered that Captain Zheng began to secretly compete with Lu Xingchi.

He shot arrows faster and faster. His arrows flew out like meteors. He spent almost no time aiming.

From her secret observation, in all fairness, Captain Zheng's skill was outstanding compared to people that were struggling to survive in the apocalypse.

The problem was that Lu Xingchi wasn't on the level of ordinary people.

Captain Zheng shot faster, so Lu Xingchi also shot faster. He didn't fall behind, but he also kept pace perfectly, not overwhelming him.

Captain Zheng seemed to finally realize how scary Lu Xingchi was.

It was like everyone was taking a test together. You scored 70, and the top student also scored 70. When you scored 90, the top student also scored 90. This meant that the top student was at a level where he could score much higher than 90.

One person tried his best while the other calmly and easily accomplished the same. The difference in their ability was immediately apparent.

After a while, Captain Zheng couldn't hold on any longer. His shooting speed slowed down.

He slowed down, and Lu Xingchi followed him in slowing down. The pressure went back to Big Black.

Big Black hacked away zombie after zombie. By now, he was panting with each slash.

Bei Nuan understood why Captain Zheng wanted to bring Lu Xingchi. Although he and Big Black were pretty good, they couldn't pass this level with just them. He probably immediately sought out Lu Xingchi after hearing his amazing skills from the skinny man.

Why did Captain Zheng want to come to such a dangerous place?
