Chapter 23 - What was the most precious and difficult thing to find in the apocalypse? (2)

If they were more familiar with each other, Bei Nuan would have patted the big boss's shoulder. Although their heights were different, great minds think alike.

Bei Nuan had thought about this early on. If bringing a living thing into the pocket space would immediately kill it, then wouldn't this be perfect for killing zombies? When a zombie tried to bite her, she could tap her finger and collect it into the pocket dimension. Done.

She could also use the same strategy to deal with bad people.

However, that was a no go. The instructions clearly said she couldn't use this function to kill. It would be regarded as cheating by the system.

Bei Nuan lied. "I can't. If I put a zombie inside, the pocket space will explode."

Lu Xingchi slightly nodded. He pointedly looked over Bei Nuan's strange outfit. "Where are you hiding the pocket space?"

In apocalyptic novels, pocket spaces were generally accessed with a bracelet or jade pendant. 90% of the time it was an heirloom, and 10% of the time, one would have to drip blood over the jewelry to get it to recognize one as the master of the space pocket.

Bei Nuan's was different.

Bei Nuan warily looked at him. "None of your business. I won't tell you."

Knowing that she was afraid of being robbed, Lu Xingchi didn't pursue this question. He called Bei Nuan over to the trunk and opened two aluminum suitcases.

Bei Nuan immediately lost her voice. The large briefcase was full of cash, and the small briefcase had neatly arranged gold bars. The gold was bright yellow and dazzling.

Bei Nuan had never seen so much money.

Although cash would soon become worthless, it still had a use in the early stage of the zombie outbreak. Some people were used to exchanging these colorful pieces of paper, and it would take a while for them to accept bartering.

"Put these two suitcases in your pocket space. The box containing gold bars is heavy. Leaving it in the jeep will consume too much gas," Lu Xingchi said.

Bei Nuan recovered from her shock and asked, "You gave me the supplies and money. Aren't you worried I'll run away with them?"

"Even gold will become worthless after a while. Moreover," Lu Xingchi lightly said, "a person that would risk being bitten by a zombie to rescue someone with asthma probably wouldn't do that."

With a snap, Lu Xingchi closed the briefcase. He paused for a moment before finally saying, "My grandma was still alive when I was a child. She also had severe asthma. If she had an asthma attack, I hope there would be someone around that would help her."

Bei Nuan understood. Due to an unexpected turn of events, she had gained the big boss's trust. What was the most precious and difficult thing to find in the apocalypse?

It wasn't supplies for survival, nor a deadly weapon. It was a reliable character. After all, good people will generally die faster and soon become a rare kind.

Bei Nuan kept the glee from showing on her face.

Lu Xingchi suddenly changed the topic and leaned over until his face was only an inch from Bei Nuan's face. He stared her in the eyes.

"Take a step back from that. If you're unreliable, your loss must be greater than mine."

He gently poked Bei Nuan's forehead with his index finger. It was the spot in the forehead where he would shoot zombies.

This was a blatant threat.

No longer happy, Bei Nuan stared at him with widened eyes. Her forehead felt cold as if his finger was cold metal.

Lu Xingchi seemed to be satisfied with Bei Nuan's reaction. He actually faintly smiled.  He took his finger back and continued packing things away.

Right after Bei Nuan finished putting the pile of stuff away, Du Ruo returned.

"Here's all the commonly used medicine that I can think of. This is all that's left in the stores." He put down the bags and added, "I found two outdoor gear stores, but they were both closed."

"You're looking for an outdoor gear store?" A nearby person responded, "I know of one."

It was the man they had met in the supermarket. The woman was supporting her husband, and they were slowly walking over. The man already looked much better.

Bei Nuan and the others were super lucky. The man had a close childhood friend that ran an outdoor gear store. One phone call later, they were set to go there.
